Lubrication

Proper lubrication is essential for reducing friction and wear between the chain’s internal components. Without it, even the highest-quality chains can rapidly deteriorate.

Use the correct lubricant: choose a high-quality chain lubricant specifically designed for the chain’s application, whether it’s food-grade or heavy-duty industrial lubrication. When choosing your lubricant you should consider its viscosity and compatibility with the chain and application.

Lubricate regularly: frequency will depend on the chain type and operating conditions, but regular planned maintenance, especially for chain used in harsh environments, is recommended. However, you should avoid over-lubrication as it can attract dirt and debris.

Target the right areas: ensure the lubricant you use penetrates the chain’s pins and bushings which is where you’ll see the most wear, as well as the plates and rollers.

Hot-dipped lubrication: designed for Attachment Chain, dipping the chain in hot lubricant helps to ensure the lube penetrates the chain’s bearing areas which standard lube spraying would not reach. Undertaken as standard for our in-house built Attachment Chain, this initial lubrication is the most important a chain receives and significantly helps to extend wear-life.

Cleaning

Cleaning your chain during regular maintenance will help remove dirt and dust that can infiltrate chain components and degrade performance.

Regular inspections: visually check for debris or build up that may require cleaning.

Cleaning agents: use appropriate cleaning agents designed for the type of chain and application.

Re-lubrication: after the cleaning process, ensure you re-lubricate the chain.

Maintenance-Free Chain

Not all applications can support regular cleaning and lubrication of chain, especially in food processing, packaging and clean-room environments. That’s where maintenance-free chain come in.

Self-lubricating design: these chains are pre-treated with high-performance lubricants and sealed, eliminating the need for re-lubrication.

Clean operation: ideal for applications where cleanliness is critical – no excess oil or risk of contamination.
